Sight Fishing
SIGHT FISHING: Silver Spray Guide Service specializes in sight fishing, which is true sport fishing the way it was meant to be. As I pole the
skiff along in water depths from 10” to 6’ we look for the fish, not just tailing on the surface as in darker waters, but cruising below the crystal clear
surface as well. Once you spot an 80 LB tarpon heading your way at 100 feet- make the cast- then watch as the fish inhales the fly. As you set the hook, watch
as a 4’ to 6’ long fish comes 6’ out of the water! Then land the beast- you won’t need a stress test for quite awhile.
LOCATION: Silver Spray Guide Service is based in Marathon Florida, which is in the heart of the
Florida Keys. There is no other place like the Florida Keys and Everglades National Park. The coral reef, which shelters the Keys from the Atlantic, creates a unique and wonderful environment of warm, clear, shallow water. One of the many great things about the Keys is we are located in the continental U.S. Travel- which has become a real chore these days- is not an issue.
TYPE OF SERVICE: I am what is know as a “trailer guide”. This means the skiff is trailered to
whichever part of the Keys is most suited to your needs- close to where you will be staying, what species of game fish you wish to pursue and current weather conditions. This type of service provides great flexibility in terms of weather, tides, and fish species. If your casting skills are less then you would like, don't worry. I enjoy working with anglers to help them improve their ability to be long, accurate, and quick.
EQUIPMENT: The skiff is a 17’ Maverick Mirage powered by a 70 hp Yamaha. Two anglers and myself are possible but if you have more in your
party I can arrange for other guides. I am proud to be an ORVIS Endosed guide and provide the best Orvis has to offer. Fishing licenses are provided as well as all tackle. Of course you are welcome to bring your own gear if you choose, but if you don’t
want the hassle of traveling with your own, rest assured I use first class equipment.
SPECIES: Depending on the time of year and your desires, we fish for Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit (my personal favorite). Redfish, Snook,
Seatrout and many other species can be caught in Everglades National Park, which is a 40 minute boat ride from Marathon. I practice catch and
release fishing.
